Rachel graduated with BSc (Hons) in Physiology, Biochemistry and Nutrition of Farm Animals and carried out a brief period of research into the airborne transmission of Foot and Mouth Disease Virus. She subsequently moved into the commercial sector working as a Business Manager with training and recruitment companies and latterly as a Global Account Manager for Cable and Wireless in the telecoms sector. Following a career break she returned to her roots in science, working as a Science Technician in both a secondary school and a sixth form college before joining the University of Surrey in 2015 with a remit to develop commercial veterinary pathology services at its new Veterinary Pathology Centre.
